About: What causes problematic sexual behavior in children? Are there alternative explanations? How can social services, law enforcement, and legal professionals address the behavior and causes?  Dr. Erika McElroy will answer these questions and more during this training on child sexual development and problematic sexual behaviors. Dr. McElroy will provide research-based causes for children acting out sexually and examine the need the sexual behavior fulfills for the child. Furthermore, this training will help professionals to develop alternative hypotheses about a child’s sexual development and best practice for addressing these behaviors.

Presenter: Dr. Erika McElroy is the Associate Director of Behavioral Health Services at the Kempe Center. Dr. McElroy earned her Ph.D. from the University of Utah, completed a two-year clinical-research child pediatric postdoctoral fellowship at the Center on Child Abuse and Neglect, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and is a licensed psychologist in Colorado and Oklahoma, She has 18 years of experience in the mental health field.
