  • Employment Type: Non-Exempt, hourly (15–20 hours/week)

Pay Rate: $19.00 – $22.00 per hour, based on experience

Program Overview

The Crawford Child Advocacy Center’s Safety Smarts program empowers children in grades K–5 with the knowledge and skills to recognize, refuse, and report unsafe or abusive situations. Launched in 2007, Safety Smarts now includes:

  • In‑person classroom sessions (½‑hour per week × 5 weeks)
  • Live online lessons
  • Special‑needs adaptations
  • Digital safety modules for grades 4–5

Note: Teaching specialized versions requires additional training/qualifications.

Position Summary

As a Safety Smarts Instructor, you will deliver engaging, age‑appropriate lessons that build children’s personal‑safety awareness and confidence. You’ll present content on recognizing and avoiding dangerous situations—including potential sexual abuse—and model healthy responses. (We understand this material may be sensitive; support is available.) You’ll use storytelling, songs, and puppetry to make key concepts memorable and fun.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lesson Delivery: Teach one 30‑minute session per week for 5 weeks in each assigned classroom (in‑person or online).
  • Engagement: Lead interactive activities—stories, songs, puppets—that resonate with K–5 learners.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, focused environment; adapt to varying attention spans and learning styles.
  • Tracking & Reporting: Record youth attendance; be prepared to respond appropriately to student disclosures and report concerns in accordance with mandatory reporting laws and CAC protocols.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate schedules with school staff and the Prevention Program Coordinator.
  • Training Compliance: Complete any additional training required for special‑needs or digital safety curricula.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., 4+ years working with children in Education, Child Development, Social Work, or related field).
  • Experience:
    • Proven ability to engage elementary‑age children.
    • Experience leading small groups; classroom or after‑school setting preferred.
  • Skills & Attributes:
      • Spanish speaking preferred.
      • Strong verbal storytelling and performance skills (comfortable with puppets, songs).
      • Flexible, patient, and energetic teaching style.
      • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license (mileage reimbursed).
  • Compliance:
      • Successful state and federal background check.
      • Availability to work part‑time during regular school hours, following the Poudre School District calendar.

Work Schedule

  • Hours: 15–20 hours per week (very limited hours available during summer months)
  • Days: Mondays–Fridays, during school hours (exact schedule coordinated with schools)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $19.00–$22.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
  • Mileage reimbursement for travel to schools and training locations
