Position Overview
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall operations, administration, and financial health of the CCAC. The ED prepares an annual budget for Board approval, monitors grant requirements and reporting, represents the organization to the public, ensures mission alignment of CCAC programs and activities, maintains a positive, trauma-informed work environment, and prioritizes a culture of support and productive collaboration, both within the organization and with its community stakeholders.
This is an on-site position, located in Fort Collins, Colorado.
The ED reports to the CCAC Board of Directors.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree and 7+ years of increasing management responsibilities. A master’s degree in organizational management (MPA, MBA, nonprofit administration, or related field) and 5+ years of management preferred.
- Financial literacy and a demonstrated ability to manage income and expenses, including budget preparation, working knowledge of the statement of activities (income statement/profit and loss), the statement of financial position (balance sheet), and the statement of cashflows
- Knowledge of human resources and employment law in the nonprofit environment
- Experience supervising individuals and teams
- Ability to effectively present to a variety of audiences and comfort with public speaking
- Understanding of management and governance principles as they relate to nonprofit organizations
- Focus on strategic, long-term goals while enacting short-term, immediate decisions, all within the requirements of the CCAC mission.
Responsibilities
- Execute the mission, vision, and strategy of the CCAC, as defined by its Board of Directors.
- Ensure the health and long-term growth of the CCAC’s programs.
- Manage grant application and reporting processes, including prospecting, grant writing, program narratives, reimbursable invoices, and financial reports
- Act as an advocate of the staff to the board and of the board to the staff to enable both to be as effective as possible in their respective roles.
- In collaboration with CCAC staff leaders, define, implement, and maintain operational and human resource policies.
- Perform or oversee (as appropriate) the recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, performance, and professional development of staff and team leaders
- Ensure the professional development of all staff members to enhance their job satisfaction, engagement with their duties, productivity, and longevity with the organization.
- Work closely with board committees (finance, events, facilities, etc.) to achieve the objectives of each and help communicate their work to the board and staff.
- Maintain all documents and records and keep all government registrations, required forms, regulatory requirements, and organizational insurance coverage up to date to ensure compliance with funding/granting entities and the organization’s nonprofit status.
- Work directly with the contract accountants and independent auditors to keep financial records accurate and up-to-date.
- Draft a monthly agenda for the Board of Directors and collaborate with the Executive Board to finalize the agenda before the monthly meeting of the Board of Directors.
- At the monthly Board meeting, report on the activity highlights of the CCAC and address any needs, challenges, or issues appropriate for the assistance or input of the Board.
- “Other duties as assigned.” Because the CCAC is a small nonprofit organization, the ED must take a hand in daily operations, as needed, and within the physical capabilities of the successful candidate. Examples include answering phones, clearing walkways, setting up and tearing down for fundraising events, welcoming families, picking up/dropping off supplies, etc. All tasks will comply with the requirements of the ADA and are subject to reasonable accommodation.
Community Relations Responsibilities:
- Represent the CAC’s purpose, goals, and program through public presentations and information, educational programs, prevention programs, community networking, media communications.
- Serve as the CAC’s liaison throughout the community.
- Actively participate on behalf of the CAC in local coalitions that address child abuse issues and prevention issues.
- Maintain active participation with the Colorado Children’s Alliance and the National Children’s Alliance.
- Promote relationships with financial contributors, partner agencies, community stakeholders, and local officials who interact with or affect the operations of the CCAC.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Available medical coverage. The CCAC pays 90% of the employee’s premium (excludes dependent/family). Available vision, dental, and long-term disability.
- 11 paid holidays per year
- Personal time off (PTO) that is equivalent to 18 days per year, increasing after 3 and 5 years of employment
- Simple IRA available after 1 year of employment with contribution matching up to 3% of employee’s salary
- Salary range of $70k-$90k with an expected hiring range of $74k-$83k, depending on experience.
This position has a priority deadline of January 31, 2025, but will remain open until it is filled.
